Hyrdo Electric Dam
Ventilation SYSTEM CLEANING
Problem: The ventilation systems serving the facility are constructed within limited access tunnels and shafts through the mountainside. The facility never shuts down and required adequate conditioned air changes, to maintain safe living and working conditions in the underground environment. The contamination within the ventilation systems was a very fine mica-based debris that easily suspended in the air. Access and facility safety were two additional challenges that required solutions.
Solution: Careful coordinated planning for usage and activity, and close Daily Communications with plant officials was paramount to successful movement between ventilation systems. Parameters and measurements were provided to ensure the remaining in-service ventilation systems were supplying adequate air to the underground work and office spaces. The Mica dust was controlled during the cleaning process by utilizing HEPA filtered collection systems, eliminating further distribution of this ultra fine rock particulate. Our technicians were obligated to attend facility safety training and pass all of the associated testing.
Result: All of the HVAC Systems associated with the Hydro Electric Dam were internally cleaned to a high standard, removing the fine contamination from the ventilation and the subsequent downstream work spaces, providing clean air.
